Serious about prayer........

“Then Jesus said to them, ‘Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread;  a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’  And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’  I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need.

“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?  If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11:5-13

If there was ever a time in our nation’s history to be serious about prayer, this is that time.

Why don’t we pray with such resolve and tenacity? Perhaps its because we haven’t had to! But “things-are-a-changing”….. rapidly, and we’d better get serious about prayer and our future. We’re facing things that our leaders, doctors and scientists cannot solve—at least not fast enough for hundreds of thousands of people that are going to be lost. Now is the time to pray, but not prayers from a prayer book or for the adulation of others that might be listening! Now is the time for those of us that know Him to get on our knees and beseech God to protect us and heal our world. He is more than able to restore us and give us back a future, but this is a time for acknowledging God, not denying Him; a time to applaud men and women of faith, not attack them for believing in a divine being; a season to see those that do pray and do believe in “right and wrong” as heroes, not someone we lampoon or mock. Salvation will not come from Opray Winfrey or Jimmy Kimmel, or the newscasters, or the editors of our newspapers—they are the reason we suffer from such a lack of faith and prayer right now!

Turn off the movies, television shows and Netflix and and tune in to Jesus Christ! Stop studying the political ads and debates and start reading God’s love letter to mankind—the Bible. We must stop trying to “see things” from every crazy and unmerited perspective that man offers in order to appear enlightened and in-tune with our times and must yearn to see things from God’s perspective.

Healing and restoration will come——and hopefully with it will come a healthier understanding of God and our need of a Savior and Lord. Horrible as it is, this virus might be the very thing that brings our nation and world back to God.

“For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”
