After several days of gray clouds, rain, hazardous winds and a general “miserable” climate, I woke up today and saw blue skies, green grass and felt a gentle warm breeze. And what an immediate change in my own attitude!
We sing about “Blue Skies”, and the “Green, Green Grass of Home” for good reasons. Something the Creator placed within our souls likes the greens and blues better that they gray and darkness. Light, brilliant colors, clear skies——we crave these things because our Creator also appears to love same. Yes, there’s a certain benefit to dark days, the drizzle, perhaps even sickness and pain, I suppose; we come to appreciate wellness, the absence of pain and beautiful clear days all the more because we know what it is like to do without…
A soft wind is blowing the limbs of the tallest trees, the skies are cloud free, the grass seems greener than ever before and all seems well even as I write this little devotion. It’s as if God is reminding me that this is how life is supposed to be lived; there is a passion within my heart to live my life away from grayness, the cold, bland colors, and (dare I say it) unimaginative and uninspiring people (most of them are now in our national Capitol).
But we are “stimulated” not so much from the Federal Government’s handouts as we are by God’s unparalleled creative order—and particularly His creation color, clarity and brightness. Thank you God for beauty.
A common comment by folks have had “near death” experiences, or have died, been to heaven and returned is that they have all seen colors there that are not here. One said, “What I experienced was so incredibly beautiful, words fail to describe it. I saw colors that are not existent on Earth, colors that had so many different shades and hues that I had never seen before.I have tried describing the colors to my friends and family, and the closest I can come to it is by saying that a particular color looked like a mix between blue, green, pink and purple, but it was nothing I had ever seen before in my waking state.”
God has great things in store for us——in heaven one day and one day soon after this pandemic has passed. But God’s goodness, clarity, light and color will soon be shining brightly.
Blue skies smilin' at me
Nothin' but blue skies do I see
Bluebirds singin' a song
Nothin' but blue skies from now on
I never saw the sun shinin' so bright
Never saw things goin' so right
Noticing the days hurrying by
When you're in love, my how they fly by
Blue days, all of them gone
Nothin' but blue skies from now on
Blue skies smilin' at me
Nothin' but blue skies do I see
Blue days all of them gone
Nothin' but blue skies from now on
